What is 5G technology? How is it different from 4G technology?
5G vs 4G

As we all know that in telecommunication, 5G is the latest and the 5th network generation currently available (under research and development). The ultimate goal for companies working on network generation is faster speed and 5G brings that with it. So, 5G is expected to be better and improved in many ways.

Let’s find out what’s the difference between 5G and 4G (Previously used generation) and which advancements 5G will offer.

What is 4G technology?

How is 5G technology different from 4G technology?
4G Technology

4G is the 4th generation in the field of cellular network technology that offers theoretically 10 times faster speed than that of its previous generation (3G). 4G was a real development in technology and its higher speed made phones and tablets more like computers. With 4G, they can run multimedia and games just like the PCs. Aside from speed, network congestion is also one of the reasons why 4G was introduced.

There are two main types of 4G depending upon their speeds,

4G LTE (Long Term Evolution)

4G LTE-Advanced

4G works the same as 3G but simply much faster. The speed of 4G can be varied depending on the location. 4G is a network protocol that sends and receives data in the form of packets like 3G. The main difference is that 4G is a completely IP-based protocol. It means that it uses internet protocols. In short, 4G offers a seamless experience even for a large number of users all over the world.

5G technology?

What is 5G?
5G Technology

As discussed above, the latest available network generation is 5G. It has to offer,

Much faster speed than the previous generation

Ultra-low latency

More reliability

Huge network capacity

increased availability

More seamless user experience

There are three types of 5G depending upon their band,

Low-band

Mid-band

High-band

5G has been specifically designed to meet the demands of today’s large growth in data and connectivity. 5G allows machines, objects, devices, and almost everything to connect virtually. It is a great innovation for the internet of things of multiple connected devices. In other words, 5G will enhance connectivity to billions of devices, the Internet of Things (IoT) to make a truly connected world.

5G can be beneficial for many technology areas like,

● Machine to machine communications

● Ultra-low latency communications

● Enhanced mobile broadband

In short, 5G will serve all types of people and industries by opening the door to new and emerging technologies like virtual and augmented reality. 5G and the Internet of Things will allow easy access to every smart machine and device.

Please note that the technology is under the research phase and various leading telecommunication companies are exploring the possibilities and the possible use cases that we could see soon.

5G Vs 4G, The Difference

Difference between 5G and 4G
5G and 4G: Difference

5G is designed to provide more connectivity than was ever available before in the previous generations.

4G technology has a theoretical peak speed of 1 Gbps while it can be seen that 5G can offer a theoretical speed of up to 20Gbps.

4G or previous technologies ensure connectivity but 5G takes the competition to another level. Along with the connectivity efficiency, it delivers connected experiences from the cloud to clients.

Unlike 4G, 5G comes up with seamless open roaming capabilities between cellular and Wi-Fi access making mobility a lot easier.

An example,

Downloading an HD movie over a 4G network, let’s say, takes 50 minutes on average but on 5G, it takes just 9 minutes.

Just because, new technology is used 5G is much better than 4G in terms of

● Higher speeds

● Less latency

● Capacity for a larger number of connected devices

● Less interference

● Better efficiency.

For a better understanding, the difference between 5G and 4G, see the table below,

As we can all witness that 4G didn’t completely replace 3G and the same can be true about 5G replacing 4G.

Will 5G technology bring dimensions to wireless?

We can say that Yes, the 5th Generation of wireless telecommunication will bring some new technologies. The companies working on it promise that 5G will bring dimensions to wireless. It means that once all of the 5G components are completely deployed and operational, the users will not be needing any kind of wire or cable to deliver communications or even streaming services to their mobile devices.

The following are some of the usages of wireless 5G,

● Driverless automobiles

● Virtual reality and augmented reality

● Cloud computing

● Internet of things

● Health care industry
